Moldova is a special country. Especially small, especially fertile, but also especially poor. Give the gift of God's Word to families in Moldova! Especially dramatic - the situation of many families. In hardly any other country are families as vulnerable as in Moldova. A quarter of the population works abroad - fathers, mothers leaving their children behind. Families that break up because of separation and economic hardship. But today, God gives us the chance to reach children and families with God's Word.
It was a modest question, and yet it surprised me. Many times the pastor of our partner church from Bosieni had visited our office in Kishinev to discuss details of joint projects. This time he discovered a Children's Bible on my desk and suddenly asked: "Brother, please forgive the frankness, but may I have this Bible? I would like to give it to my son." Of course, I gave it to him. A small incident - but with a great effect, as I later learned with amazement:
The pastor's son was so enthusiastic about the Children's Bible that he never put it down. At night, he read it under the covers with a flashlight. Soon after, a contest was called in his school. The students were to read a book of their choice and then give a presentation on it. There was to be a prize for the best presentation (and the best book). For the pastor's son, it was clear which book he wanted to give his presentation on. He enthusiastically told the class about his Children's Bible, and everyone listened with rapt attention. The joy of seeing his book win first prize was almost overshadowed when his best friend came up to him and asked him if he could read the book, too. The pastor's son struggled, because he did not want to give his book out of his hand, but then he decided to lend it to his friend.
At home he told his father about it, and he encouraged him to give the book to his friend. "God will get you another Children's Bible," he told his son.
At our next meeting, the pastor told me about his boy's experiences, and I gladly gave him another Children's Bible.
I thought about this story for a long time. On the one hand, I marvelled at how God worked through a little boy who read his exciting Children's Bible at night.... On the other hand, I see the opportunity to reach children and their families today with such a simple but powerful means. This has encouraged us as a whole team to continue working on the translation of the Children's Bible into Romanian. Pray with us that God's Spirit will work in us Christians to use this tool and take it to families. Because through His Word, God can change families - and thereby our whole nation!

Moldova is more than poverty and economic hardship. There are families broken by the fact that fathers and mothers migrate abroad in search of work.
