Her name is Zarina*, and she was born in the Pamir as the third of four children. Her father had served as a translator with the Russian army in Afghanistan, and he returned with very bad health. He died 10 years ago. Zarina became an economist and entered a forced marriage with a husband she did not know... * name changed
She lived with him for six months. Her life consisted of permanent fights and arguments, in which her husband also became violent. Her husband adhered to the occult - which is very common in the Pamir. When Zarina was pregnant with her first child, her husband again had a fight with her. She ran away and returned to her father’s home, in the middle of a cold winter night. She lost her child and all hope of life.
Some time later, her younger brother Masud met brother S. from the church in Dushanbe who serves in the Pamir. Through his testimony, Masud accepted Jesus.They became brothers in Christ and very good friends. S. became a frequent guest in Masud’s and Zarina’s house and he witnessed to the entire family. During one of these fellowships, Zarina accepted Jesus as her Lord and Saviour.
Her older brothers and her relatives were against this decision, because most people in Pamir practise Ismaelism. Her relatives and her neighbours put pressure on her every day. S. talked to the family to allow Zarina to go to Khudyand to meet other Christians and to practically see how Christians live a Christian life. They allowed her to go, and Zarina had a great time with the Christians in Khudyand. She also served in various social ministries. One month later, she came to the church in Dushanbe, where she was met by the believers with love and care. Every day, she enjoys fellowship with her brothers and sisters in Christ. She serves in the kitchen and cleans the dormitory where she is allowed to stay.
Zarina loves Jesus. Whenever we talk about Him, her eyes fill with tears and she says her dream is to be with Jesus no matter what the circumstances in her life. S. gave her a Bible and Zarina loves to read it. She also became enrolled in our Correspondence Bible School and studies the course The Bible Says.
On June 13th Zarina was baptised. She had been looking forward to this day. Please pray for her, that the Lord might strengthen her faith and that she would grow in knowledge and love of Jesus, witnessing to many others in Pamir.
